Does anyone have any book ideas for me?

Last Friday was the final day of school. I never realized until now that the last day of school is more exciting for the teachers than the students. I was practically throwing them into their cars at the end of the day. I hugged them all told them I loved them and then said bye-bye.

I am all moved out of my classroom. On Tuesday I have to go back for a final meeting and then print out my grades then I will brush off the dust and walk away! It was a great year it really was. I love all of my students and the families. I won't be going back next year and Nat has a new job at a new and better school.

But the real reason I am writing is not to remininsce about the good and the bad times. One of the reasons I love summer is I get to read. I can't really read during the school year because I like to be consummed with my book and you can't do that when in the back of your mind you are trying to remember you need to make a study guide for the history test.

When I was going into 6th grade my Mom made a deal with me, if I read 50 books I could go to EuroDisney. In my mind now I think my Mom was tricking me. I think she knew I couldn't read that many books in one summer and if I didn't like the book I didn't have to finish it I just had to get another one. The great thing is I discoved the joy of reading (probably her real plan). Now to me summer time is a time for reading.

My head has been buried in the sand for several months and I have not been paying attention to the literary world.

Does anyone have any book ideas for me?

Besides July 21 when I will begin to read the new Harry Potter book I have no other ideas for my summer bookfest. So my big sister Alicia told me to put it on here and let others help me. I only have two requirements:

1. No parenting books (I am bombarded with them regularly, not really the genre I was looking for)

2. I like my books to be something that I can't put down, it doesn't need to make me think (in fact I prefer if it doesn't) Think beach books.

So please give me your suggestions for books. We have the best library system here in our county so I can probably get most books (even if they are in Spanish or Urdu, not that I could read it but I could get it).

I was just looking for something on Amazon and saw that Janet Evanovich (one of my favorite authors) has a new Stephanie Plum novel out. If you like silly reads any of the Stephanie Plum novels (there are 13 now) are great. They are funny and a fast read. Adrianna Trigiani is another of my favorite authors I suggest her to you. I figure I should give a little to get a little.

I will look on NPR.org and see what authors and books they have featured recently. We need to have our little family reading club again. Reading The Poisonwood Bible together was fun.

I just finished OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon. It is a novel all about Scotland right before the Bonnie Prince Charlie uprising (circa 1740) which resulted in the slaughter at Culloden. It is very romantic and well written. It was a fast read even though it is a 700 page book.

The series can be found in all the public libraries.

I just started the second in the series called DRAGONFLY IN AMBER.

Two wonderful series, but very different:
the Zion Covenant series by Bodie and Brock Thoene; they take place right before and during WWII. The historical detail is wonderful, and they are full of suspense and some romance, too. The next is Rita Mae Brown's Mrs. Murphy mystery series - they don't necessarily have to be read in order, but are probably best if they are.
